Alright, this is my first tshirt review on TshirtBlend.com. I’ve been judging tshirts, laughing at them, wearing them, sleeping in them and overbidding people for them on eBay for as long as I can remember. Now is my chance to share all my tshirt expertise with you and spread the goodness.
Let’s go…I came across the Homage Clothing brand a few weeks ago. Being a sports fan, I instantly fell in love with their hip, athletic influenced and iconic designs. This is how they describe themselves on their website.
”Homage turns back the clock with shout outs to eclectic moments and personalities in sports, music, politics and popular culture. From Larry Bird to Kris Kross, our tees tell stories of triumph, individualism and hustle, preserving the old school and creating new legacies. Pay Homage.”
PayHomage they do. Based in Ohio, they bring some fresh vintage designs and I’m always lovin that. I thought about picking up a tee from their website but at $32USD plus shipping to Canada – I wasn’t ready to take the risk without first knowing the fit and second, rating the cottony softness for myself. As my random life would have it, I walked by Urbn Outfitters and stopped in to see what was on the shelf. Sure enough, I spotted the Homage tag and I quickly unfolded and manhandled it to see if this line was as fresh as other bloggers said it was. The tshirt melted around my fingers like butter and begged me to buy it. At $28CAD I was sold. Unexpectedly, I got to the cash and the total came to $20.32. ”Almost” honest me looked pleasantly surprised – I quickly straightened my face like it was nothing, paid for the tee and booked it.

The shirt I picked up was the ”Detroit” tee, size medium. The 80’s inspired, vintage graphic of the word Detroit, shaped as a hand pistol, is reminiscent of a 1984 Time Magazine article which stated ”guns came close to ranking as household appliances in Detroit, with an estimated 1.5 million firearms in a city of only 1.2 million people”

Although the tshirt underlines a severe social issue in Detroit, I think the graphic is funny, in context, and the fabric is nice and thin, yet durable and conforming. Definitely worth the 20$. Now that I know the feel and my size, I would be willing to drop $32USD for another Homage tee. Drop a Jackie Robinson inspired tee and I’m first in line.
Another cool thing about Homage is their website. I would never sit through a dynamic intro on a landing page but the retro sports, music and pop culture photography with accompanying soul tracks sucks you right in. Get the Funk out of my Face.
